UC Irvine opened the season with an away game against Marymount College on February 2, 2013. Nerves ran high as the team awaited the result of many practices. As the game started it was clear the team was tense and needed to settle down and simply play their game. However, UCI was able to find the back of the net twice, leaving the score 2-0 by the end of the first quarter. UCI came out strong the second quarter and were able to place five in the goal and only allow one goal on a Marymount man-up play. At half time the score was 7-1 showing a dominant UCI side. The 3rd quarter again showed a dominant UCI side who scored four goals and only allowed one against leaving the score 11-2 at the end of the 3rd. In the fourth quarter fatigue began to show on the UCI side, however they kept strong and both teams placed two goals in the back of the net to make the end score 13-4. Some final stats for UCI were 13 goals, 7 assists, 51 ground balls against Marymounts 36, and a .667 save percentage (more stats can be found on the MCLA website). UCI Men's Lacrosse opened the season strong but does have some work to do. However, the coming season shows plenty of potential for success!
UC Irvine faced off against the Mexican National team on October 26th, 2012. The first goal was scored by UCI in the second quarter, which was followed by 2 quick goals from Mexico. UCI struck back with another goal late in the second quarter, and the teams went into half time all tied up. UCI scored the next goal to set the score at 3-2. Mexico answered with 2 goals in quick succession at the end of the third quarter. Despite the one goal deficit, UCI rallied in the fourth quarter to score 4 more goals and end the game 7-4.
The ANGRY OLD MEN (aka the UCI alumni) take on the Eaters at the UCI ARC Fields. This game promises to have its share of spills (pulled muscles for the old guys) and thrills. Look to the UCI Men's Lacrosse Facebook page for more info.
